Campus Principal
Welcome Back to the 2025-2026 School Year!
Hello Families,
I hope you all have had an enjoyable summer! We are looking forward to welcoming all our students back to school on Monday, August 25, 2025! The campus will be open for students beginning at 7:47 AM daily and a “grab and go” style breakfast will be served in two locations. The Main Lobby will be the pickup location for breakfast for 9-12th grade students, and the Arts entrance will continue to serve as the pickup location for breakfast for 6-8th on the way to your first period class. The school day begins at 7:55am, and all students are expected to be in their first period classroom, ready to learn, at this time. Dismissal will be at 2:44 PM on all weekdays except Wednesdays, which continue to be early release days for students (dismissal at 2:04 PM) to allow for staff professional development meetings.
I am asking for your support to limit cell phone and social media usage during school. We all know how distracting social media can be for students. Our goals this year are attendance, instruction, and student engagement. We want students to be fully engaged in their education. For this to happen, students need to focus on their learning. Please encourage your children to use their devices responsibly and at appropriate times.
Our Assistant Principals will be working closely with assigned grade levels as follows: Mr. Morgan will lead the grade 6-8 arts pathway and continue with our 9th grade students; Ms. Campbell will lead the 10th grade; and Ms. Brodaski will continue leading the 12th graders. The 11th grade will be split between Ms. Campbell and Ms. Brodaski.
Our campus is fully supported with amazing support personnel to include those leading special education, academics, climate, magnet programming, MLL services, college, career and certification pathways, counseling, and a variety of relationship-building, athletics, and enrichment programming. I also wish to give a shout out to our secretarial, food service, and custodial staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the summer in preparation for welcoming all back. We are looking forward to continuing our growth and improvement as a school community and to providing a top-notch education for all our students.
To prepare you for the upcoming school year, please review the following helpful information:
- Attendance matters! Our school goal is to get our chronic absenteeism rate under 20% for the coming school year. In order to achieve that goal, school staff and families will have to work together to get our students in the building consistently. Be here on time and be present in class. For you and your classmates to be successful, we need you here, ready to learn, and positively contributing.
- Daily Schedule – This year, all grade 6-12 students will follow a block schedule, rotating between A- and B-day classes. Students will have four 90-minute classes and a 30-minute lunch each day. The monthly lunch menu can be found via the link on our website (nlhs.newlondon.org). The daily bell schedule is attached for your reference.
- Student Course Schedules – Fall 2025 student course schedules are being finalized and will be available the week of August 18 via student and parent’s PowerSchool portal! A communication will be sent out via ParentSquare as soon as the schedule is live. Please note that these schedules might be subject to change and are not final. Students and families can contact their school counselor with any questions or concerns via email.
- ParentSquare – Earlier this year, NLPS implemented a new online communication platform called ParentSquare, a secure system which allows teachers, administrators, parents, and students to communicate safely and confidentially, and eliminates the need for physical mailings. Parents can quickly and easily approve permission slips, RSVP for events, securely receive important student documents, view the school calendar of events, and more all in one convenient location and in their native language. Please note that all school communications will take place through this platform. There will be no physical mailings sent home to families except upon request. If you have not already, please take a moment to download and set up your ParentSquare account to ensure you do not miss any important communications from NLHSMMC.
-
PowerSchool – We also encourage all parents and guardians to take a moment to confirm that your Parent PowerSchool account is up to date. Student grades, class schedules, student attendance reports, graduation progress plans, and more continue to be accessible via this platform. Instructions are also included for those who have never created an NLPS Parent PowerSchool account. If you run into any issues with creating an account for either platform, please feel free to reach our summer support team at 860-437-6400 for additional assistance.
-
Bus Information – Bus routes for the 2025-2026 school year are available via the district website (www.newlondon.org) starting 8/18. If you have questions specific to your student’s route, please contact our Transportation Specialist, Julian Wilson, at 860-439-7878.
-
Campus Parking Permits – Parking will be available for student drivers in grades 11 and 12. If interested, students should complete the parking application with all required documents and return it to the HS Main Office to receive a display tag for their vehicle and further directions.
-
Family-Student Handbook – The 2025-2026 NLHSMMC Family-Student Handbook is being finalized and will posted to our website, nlhs.newlondon.org, and ParentSquare very shortly. Please note, the expectation is that all parents/guardians review the handbook with their student/s. Parents/guardians will be required to sign off digitally via ParentSquare that they have received and reviewed the handbook. Students will be required to sign off during their advisory period.
Please continue to monitor our website, Facebook, and Instagram pages (both @NLHSMMC) for the most up-to-date information on all campus happenings. We look forward to welcoming all students and families to campus for our annual Open House event, taking place on Tuesday, September 23rd from 5:00-7:00pm. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at mahonb@newlondon.org. Let’s make this a great year!
