Welcome Back to the 2026-2027 School Year!

 

Hello Whalers!!

Welcome back to another year at New London High School Multi-Magnet Campus! I hope you all have had an enjoyable summer! The first day of the 2026-2027 school year is rapidly approaching! All students are expected back to school on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.  Please note that school hours have changed for the upcoming school year. New London High School Multi-Magnet Campus will now operate on a 7:40am to 2:30pm schedule.  

The campus will be open to students beginning at 7:35am each school day and a "grab-and-go" style breakfast will be served in two locations. The Main Lobby will be the pickup location for breakfast for 9-12th grade students, and the Arts entrance will continue to serve as the pickup location for breakfast for grade 8 students. 
 
The administrative team has worked hard over the summer to enhance several aspects of the school day for this upcoming year. Some major changes for the 2026-2027 school year include:

  • Mr. Michael Pulver as Grade 8 Assistant Principal: We are excited to have Mr. Michael Pulver join the administrative team. Mr. Pulver will be supporting students and families as the lead for grade 8. He can be contacted at any time via email at pulverm@newlondon.org or at 860-439-7872.
  • Rotating Class Periods: Aside from the change to start and end times, please note that the order of class periods will rotate each day. This rotation provides equitable access to instructional time by preventing any one class from always meeting first thing in the morning or at the end of the day. 
  • Daily Homeroom: All students will be assigned a homeroom class that meets each day. Previously, homeroom met once a week for an advisory session. Research suggests that implementing a daily homeroom helps build a stronger school community, improves student-staff relationships, and provides dedicated time for a variety of non-instructional activities (such as review of academic progress, communication and focus on grade level specific information, social-emotional learning activities, and more).
  • No Cell Phones/Electronic Devices During Instructional Time. We will be strictly enforcing our no-cell phone/electronic policy during instructional time. Cell phones and other personal electronic devices will still be permitted during passing times, study halls, lunch waves, and before and after school. Limiting device use during instructional time helps reduce distractions and supports student engagement, learning, and a focused classroom environment. We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing this expectation with your student.

Our campus is fully supported with amazing support personnel to include those leading special education, academics, climate, magnet programming, MLL services, college, career and certification pathways, counseling, and a variety of relationship-building, athletics, and enrichment programming. I also wish to give a shout out to our secretarial, food service, and custodial staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the summer in preparation for welcoming all back. We are looking forward to continuing our growth and improvement as a school community and to providing a top-notch education for all our students.

To prepare you for the upcoming school year, please review the following helpful information:

  • Attendance matters!  Our school goal is to get our chronic absenteeism rate under 20% for the coming school year. In order to achieve that goal, school staff and families will have to work together to get our students in the building consistently. Be here on time and be present in class. For you and your classmates to be successful, we need you here, ready to learn, and positively contributing.

  • PowerSchool – We also encourage all parents and guardians to take a moment to confirm that your Parent PowerSchool account is up to date. Student grades, class schedules, student attendance reports, graduation progress plans, and more continue to be accessible via this platform. Instructions are also included for those who have never created an NLPS Parent PowerSchool account. If you run into any issues with creating an account for either platform, please feel free to reach our summer support team at 860-437-6400 for additional assistance. 

  • Bus Information – Bus routes for the 2026-2027 school year are available via the district website (www.newlondon.org). If you have questions specific to your student’s route, please contact our Transportation Specialist, Julian Wilson, at 860-439-7878.  

  • Campus Parking Permits – Parking will be available for student drivers in grades 11 and 12. If interested, students should complete the parking application with all required documents and return it to the HS Main Office to receive a display tag for their vehicle and further directions.
